Qibla Compass

A Qibla compass uses your device's GPS to determine your location and magnetometer to detect device orientation. It calculates the shortest great circle distance and bearing from your position to the Kaaba in Mecca, then displays a compass needle pointing in that direction.

Without a compass, you can find Qibla direction using the sun's position (during specific prayer times), using landmarks if you know the general direction to Mecca from your location, or using online Qibla direction calculators that only require your city or coordinates.

The Qibla direction varies by location because Earth is spherical, and the shortest path between two points on a sphere (great circle route) changes based on your starting position. The direction to Mecca from New York is different from the direction to Mecca from London due to the curvature of the Earth.

You need GPS or location services to determine your current position, but internet is not required once your location is obtained. However, for the most accurate results, an internet connection helps with assisted GPS and compass calibration. The app can work offline after initial location detection.
