According to Islamic Shariah, the Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth one must own before Zakat becomes obligatory. The Nisab is calculated based on the value of gold (87.48 grams) or silver (612 grams).
"And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment." (Quran 9:34)
The rate of Zakat on gold, silver, and cash is 2.5% of the total value, provided it has been held for one complete lunar year and meets the Nisab threshold.
Zakat becomes due after one complete lunar year (Hawl) has passed on the wealth. The calculation is based on the Islamic calendar.
